What Causes Split Ends?

Dry brittle hair is a sure sin that your hair is over processed and lacking vital moisture and nourishment. Some of the daily culprits damaging your hair….

hot styling tools used on the regular ( blow dryers on high heat, curling irons, flat irons….)
Harsh chemical treatments .. (relaxers, Brazilian Treatments, perms, and BLEACH!)

Rough towel drying
Not receiving regular hair cuts or trims

Unfortunately there is no cure for split ends other then cutting them off. If you don’t trim your split ends they will continue to break and split higher and higher. 2014 Hairstyle Trends

There are some hairstyles that seem as eponymous as time itself. The flirty bob of the 1920s and the sleek, Rachel-inspired strands that were so famous in the 90s will forever be on the most-request hairstyles that we see here in our salon.

But there are other hairstyles that might not be for everyone; in fact, you might want to leave these hairstyles in the fashion magazines where they first appeared.

So readers, we’ve got a few questions for you. We’re going to list some of the most questionable hairstyle trends of 2014based on our careful research (i.e. our stylists’ opinions). Let us know in the comments section if you absolutely love this hairstyle trend, or you wish it would disappear forever. Don’t forget to leave your own suggestions, as we love hearing from our readers and clients!

The Undercut: Rihanna rocked it first, and Miley Cyrus shook up the Twittersphere when she revealed her half-shaven locks. Now with celebrities like Justin Bieber jumping on the bandwagon, we can’t help but wonder if this is truly trend-setting, or just a hairstyle that makes you look like you got into a fight with your electric razor.

Hair Tinsel: If you’ve always wanted to look like a Christmas tree, hanging hair tinsel in your strands might be the way to go. But with celebrities like Beyoncé and Kei$ha rocking this style, the jury’s still out.

Feather Extensions: As a distant cousin of hair tinsel, feather extensions are still going to be a major trend for the warmer months of 2013. Long and slender feathers in your hair might be a colorful statement, but these feathers aren’t exactly appropriate for family gatherings and cocktail parties. Perhaps it’s best to leave this trend with the teenybopper crowds.

Ombre: Don’t get us wrong: we here at Tomy B. Salon love, love, love a subtle ombre look. But when things start getting taken to extremes, it can often look like you forgot to get your highlights done. Like the old saying goes: everything in moderation.

Pink Hair: We can thank Nicki Minaj for kick-starting this trend – or should we? Pink hair can be fun and playful on younger women who don’t have to go to office jobs on the weekdays, but it might not be the best hair color choice for everyone else. We say keep this look safely cloistered at festivals and in fashion magazines.

What do you think? Should these hairstyle trends be celebrated in 2013, or brushed off as just another crazy trend?
